When I swapped them, I did look at the opening and I could see a difference just by looking at it. I'll try dropping it (retraction) down again some more today and see what that does.Īs for the nozzle, I actually changed that out to a new nozzle a few days ago because the old nozzle kept clogging up.

The wider the nozzle, the easier it is for filament to ooze.ĭo you have a part cooling fan? Part cooling fans also blow cool air onto the nozzle, which can cause a "skin" of slightly solidified filament to form on the end of the nozzle while you're traveling, trapping molten plastic that would otherwise ooze. Brass is a very soft metal, and the hole in your nozzle will expand as it wears, especially if you print filaments with embedded particles like metal fill or glow filament. If it extrudes happily, you're good to go.Īnother thing to check is your nozzle. If it doesn't flow through easily then your extruder will likely grind the filament. If you aren't sure whether a temperature will work, try pushing 5cm of filament through the hotend manually and feel the resistance. I'd also drop temp to ~190, maybe even lower.

If you retract too fast the filament will tear in the heater block, leaving the molten part in the nozzle, where it is free to ooze out. Even for bowden setups running $7 E3D V6 clones, the most I've ever needed is 2mm for a 1.75mm diameter setup, or 1mm for 3mm filament. Retraction speed and distance still seem too high. The wispy strings don't show up on that model, but what I do get are "arms" coming off each cone regardless of the settings. For each change, I printed this test model. I also tried lowering the temperature down to 198° and then 193°. I have tried altering the retraction settings to 4mm 60mm/s 3mm 60mm/s 3mm at 25mm/s. Z-Seam Alignment: Sharpest Corner (default setting) They all reference the retraction, temperature and speed settings, so those are what I will quote here. I have read the troubleshooting guides at ultimaker, matterhackers, simplif圓d and all3dp. I have been having this stringing issue for a while now and I normally just clean it off and it's not that big a deal, but this time, what with the small details, this is a nightmare.
